Year End Giving

Year-End Holidays and Deadlines: Important Information for Fundholders

Our team and financial partners observe several holiday closures in November and December. To ensure your grant recommendations and gifts are processed smoothly before December 31, we recommend keeping these key dates in mind:

  • November 23-27: Grant Processing Pause – Resumes November 30.
  • Monday, December 14: Last Day to Recommend a Grant for 2026 Processing – To ensure that nonprofits receive grants by the close of the calendar year, please submit recommendations by this date.
  • December 21-January 1: Grant Processing Pause – Resumes January 4.
  • December 24: Stock Gift Target Date – Brokerage processing varies; we encourage initiating by this date or sooner to allow sufficient processing time. Visit sonomacf.org/stocks before starting.
  • December 31: Final Date for 2026 Tax Benefits – Contributions must be postmarked or received by this date.

Making Gifts to Your Fund

You can make a gift to your Sonoma Community Foundation fund in a variety of ways. We are available to walk you through any of these options:

  • Checks, wire transfer, or cash gifts
  • Appreciated stock or other securities
  • Cryptocurrency
  • Real property or other non-cash assets
  • Opening a new donor-advised fund with an initial contribution

Making Gifts to Sonoma Community Foundation

In addition to the options above, you can make a gift directly to the Foundation’s strategic or pooled funds via:

  • Recommending a grant through your donor-advised fund
  • Making a credit card donation
  • Making an IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution

Donors age 70½ or older can donate directly from an IRA to count toward their Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). While tax law prohibits QCDs into individual DAFs, they are a great way to support our community-wide pooled funds.
