We are now Sonoma Community Foundation

To our community,

Your generosity and spirit of community are essential to the work we do. Today, we’re excited to share a new milestone with you: we are simplifying our name from Community Foundation Sonoma County to Sonoma Community Foundation.

As I reflect on our updated look and feel, I’m so proud of the work and where it’ll take us. Inspired by the landscape and spirit of Sonoma County, it reflects us, the work we’ve done all these years, and the work we have ahead.

While it’s a small change, it’s one that we’ve thought about deeply. Emerging directly from our 2025–2030 strategic plan, this update was shaped by our staff, board, and community, and reflects our deep commitment to our work together. Sonoma Community Foundation is already what we’re most commonly called, aligns our name with other community foundations in our area, and helps clear up a common misconception that we’re a part of county government.

When an organization has been around for over four decades, change is inevitable. Over the years, our name and brand have evolved and modernized. Even so, we hold true to our founding spirit: a group of civic-minded people coming together to make a difference where we can.

We’ve had a lot to be proud of over the years, thanks to your enduring partnership. Together, we’ve granted over $350M to our community, funding vital local services, community programs, and support when our neighbors needed it most. We’ve built trusted partnerships with nonprofits and leaders doing incredible work across the county. We’ve benefited from steady leadership and longstanding dedication from staff and board members, more than a few with over a decade of service to our organization. And we’re honored to work alongside a devoted community of donors and fundholders who put their trust, resources, and shared heart into action.

Some of these relationships started in 1983 and continue to this day. That spirit of community is at the heart of what we do.

The work continues, and we have much to look forward to. Our strategic plan calls us to leadership, partnership, and action. Through the Fund for Belonging, we’re putting this vision into practice: since launching last year, we’ve raised over $1.3 million and granted over $965,000 to tackle urgent issues facing Sonoma County’s immigrant communities.

Over the next few weeks, you’ll see our name and logo change across our website, communications, and materials. At this time, there is nothing you need to update or change.

  • Fundholders and donors: Your fund agreements, donor portal, and grant recommendations can all proceed as normal. Any checks written to our old name will still be processed without issue, and our contact details remain the same. If you have any questions, please reach out to your Philanthropic Advisor, and we will be happy to help.
  • For nonprofits and partners: Our grantee portal, grant agreements, contact information, contracts, and tax ID (EIN) remain the same. If you would like to update our logo on your website, you can access our brand assets here.

While our name is new, our roots remain unchanged. We’re the same team, doing the same good work, more committed than ever to Sonoma County and everything that makes it a wonderful place to call home.

Thank you for being a part of our community. We can’t wait to build what’s next, together.

In partnership,

Óscar Chávez
