Introducing our new President and CEO, Óscar Chávez
We are thrilled to share that Óscar Chávez has been named as our new President & CEO! Óscar has been a community leader for more than 25 years and he has a deep understanding of Sonoma County and a proven track record of convening people to find solutions to community problems. Óscar started his new role on Monday, March 27.
Óscar brings a wealth of experience to his new role and is very knowledgeable about the Community Foundation, having served on our Board of Directors for nine years and continuing his service as a member of our Community Investment Committee. Óscar spent ten years at the Sonoma County Department of Human Services, where he served as the Assistant Director, and six years as the Executive Director for Community Action Partnership Sonoma County.
“I am honored to join Community Foundation Sonoma County as its new President and CEO. I look forward to working with our staff, board members, donors, nonprofit and community partners to continue building a stronger and more equitable community for all of Sonoma County.”
—Óscar Chávez
Our search committee, consisting of current and former CFSC board members, worked closely with leadership search firm Carlson Beck to develop a comprehensive and equitable search process. The team developed a position description informed by interviews and listening sessions with community leaders, donors, board members, and CFSC staff, and Óscar quickly emerged as a top candidate.
“Óscar’s deep roots in the community, visionary leadership, and commitment to equity make him the ideal person to lead Community Foundation Sonoma County forward,” said Thelia Wade, Board Chair. “As we mark the 40th anniversary of Community Foundation Sonoma County, we are excited to see what he will bring to our organization and our community.”
We are excited about the future of our foundation under Óscar’s leadership and look forward to working with him—and with you—to make a positive impact on our community. We hope you’ll join us in welcoming Óscar into his new role!
With gratitude,
Your Community Foundation Team
