As we watch the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Ukraine, our hearts go out to all families affected by the ongoing strife in the region. While it is tempting to feel somewhat helpless in the face of a crisis of this scale, this is a moment where our help is needed more than ever.

With the crisis in Ukraine and surrounding areas, CRS is preparing to support families who have been forced to flee their homes. Volunteers are already taking action on the ground in Ukraine and bordering countries. Donations would go towards providing safe shelter, hot meals, hygiene supplies, fuel for heating, transport to safer areas, counseling support, and more.

Direct Relief is one of the world’s largest distributors of donated medical supplies. Over the past six months, it has provided Ukraine with $26 million in medical aid. They are currently working on procuring and delivering emergency medical supplies to Ukraine and surrounding areas, as well as establishing longer-term medical aid to those displaced.

Doctors Without Borders is an independent, global movement providing medical aid where it’s needed most. Their mission is to treat displaced people around the world for the physical and psychological scars of war and extreme violence, for hardships suffered along the journey, and for other essential medical needs. As hundreds of thousands flee Ukraine, Doctors Without Borders are working to mobilize staff and equipment into the areas most affected by the conflict.

International Medical Corps has provided medical services and prescription medicine to people in eastern Ukraine since 2014. To meet the needs of the Ukrainians displaced by this conflict, they have increased their presence in Ukraine and surrounding countries, focusing in particular on mental health care, access to food and water, and supporting refugees.

The IRC is currently on the ground in Poland supporting displaced children and families with vital supplies. Donations will help provide food, medical care, and emergency support services to refugee families.

As the crisis in Ukraine escalates, thousands have come under fire in areas across the country and thousands more have fled the fighting. Members of Ukraine’s Jewish community are especially vulnerable. The Jewish Community Federation has committed to being a part of the global Jewish response to this crisis by raising and sending funds to support the Jewish community in Ukraine.

Mercy Corps is providing humanitarian relief to in Poland and Romania, to individuals displaced by the crisis in Ukraine. Additionally, Mercy Corps is assessing changing needs in Ukraine in order to direct resources to where they are needed. They will provide cash assistance, allowing refugees and others to access services and purchase supplies that are most useful to their situation and empowering local organizations the ability to respond nimbly.

In Ukraine and surrounding areas, children are being caught in the middle of armed conflict, forced from their homes, and exposed to injury, hunger and cold. Donations to Save the Children’s Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund will provide children and families with immediate aid, such as food, water, hygiene kits, psychosocial support, and cash assistance.

Urgent Action Fund supports women, trans, and nonbinary activists on the ground in and surrounding Ukraine by providing flexible funding and security support. They are coordinating emergency evacuations and relocations, legal, financial and medical support, security, increased shelter capacities for children, women and other civilians, and access to alternative, safe communication channels.
