Karin Demarest joined the Community Foundation in October of 2011, bringing 20 years of experience in the field of youth development and education. Her current responsibilities include strategic oversight of the Programs Department, including grant-making in Health and Human Services, Education, Arts, and the Environment. Karin also manages the grant-making portfolio for Sonoma County Vintners Foundation, featuring a multi-year initiative to increase third-grade literacy rates.
Since the devastating fires of October 2017, Karin has committed to supporting the long-term recovery of our community through the Resilience Fund.
Prior to coming to the Community Foundation Sonoma County, Karin worked with several organizations dedicated to an equitable, high-quality arts education, including the California Alliance for Arts Education, where she launched the Local Advocacy Network in 15 communities throughout the state.
Karin received a BA from the University of Arizona and holds a multiple subject teaching credential and a Masters of Arts in Teaching from the University of San Francisco.
