Sonoma County’s largest Latino leadership organization, Los Cien, will be hosting their 3rd Annual State of the Latino Community in Sonoma County event on Thursday, September 29th at Sonoma State University. The venue is an appropriate one, as enrollment figures for the K-12 educational system illustrate the increasing diversity of Sonoma County youth. More than 42 percent of K-12 students in Sonoma County are Hispanic – a 4 percent increase from three years ago. Additionally, Hispanic youth are the largest ethnic group represented in California, making up 55 percent of the K-12 student population.

Los Cien’s dynamic program – entitled, “Welcome to the 21st Century: We Are All in This Together” – is a timely reminder in what has been a divisive presidential election year for some. California Secretary of State Alex Padilla will be the featured keynote speaker. His exceptional personal and professional background is sure to deliver an exciting contribution to the organization’s vision of strengthening the collective health, education, income and civic participation of the diverse cultures that call Sonoma County home.

Beth Brown, CEO of Community Foundation Sonoma County, will serve as a panelist at the State of the Community.
