Our thoughts and well wishes are with the residents and firefighters effected by the devastating Clayton fire that broke out August 13th. The fire is still active and borders the areas destroyed by last year’s Valley fire, but is fortunetly being contained. If you wish to provide assistance, we have compiled a list of organizations actively involved.

American Red Cross

Red Cross is supporting three shelters in partnership with Lake County Social Services. Lake County Animal Care and Control’s LEAP program was activated to help with animal evacuations. The Red Cross is also partnering with Salvation Army to provide meals at the shelters. The Red Cross shelters provide immediate needs of those evacuated, including a safe place to stay, food (meals, snacks), water, health services, emotional support, information, and other support resources. Additionally, the Red Cross has activated our Red Cross Safe and Well to help the residents of Lake County affected by the Valley Fire.

Catholic Charities of Santa Rosa

Catholic Charities is working with other agencies serving Clayton Fire victims by bringing food to the area this week, assisting with volunteer recruitment, and delivering donations of gas cards or new socks, underwear or unopened packages of diapers. Catholic Charities also provides case management to help fire victims navigate access to relief resources.

North Coast Opportunities Inc.

North Coast Opportunities, a community action agency serving Lake and Mendocino counties, has also revived a fire relief fund created during last year’s fires.

Redwood Credit Union

Fund supports relief efforts and the victims of the 2016 Lake County fire. The fund is a partnership between The Press Democrat, state Senator Mike McGuire and Redwood Credit Union and mirrors a successful relief fund established in 2015 for Lake County fire victims which raised $2.5 million from more than 12,000 donors.

Wine Country Animal Lovers

Wine Country Animal Lovers temporarily houses pets in boarding facilities (once other shelters in surrounding areas are full) and pays for food and supplies for people for their pets while displaced due to the Clayton fire. WCAL is coordinating these efforts with other organizations. They are partnering with Sunrise Horse Rescue and Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch to provide for horses and large animals.
