Basic Human Needs Grants

Application Process and Due Dates

Applications are accepted at any time and reviewed periodically during the year.

Interested organizations should call to discuss their program before submitting an application. Contact Robert Judd at 707.303.9615.

Basic Human Needs Grant Criteria

Grants up to $5,000 will be awarded for projects that provide food, clothing or shelter to low-income people in crisis.
Preference will be given to proposals for non-staff expenses and to organizations whose mission and services have historically involved the provision of food, shelter or clothing to low-income people.
Grants will be awarded for periods of 12 months at a time and are not allowed to overlap.

To Get Started:

  • Complete the two page budget forms in Microsoft Excel. You will be asked to attach the complete budget pages when you are ready to submit you application.
  • Complete the electronic application:
    • If this is your first application using the electronic program, you will be asked to set up an account, provide your IRS Tax ID and take a short eligibility quiz.
    • If you have an established account, you will be asked for your password to either access existing application drafts or to open a new application.
    • A word of caution: When working in the electronic application program, save your work as you go along and, if you want to leave and then return to complete your application later, absolutely save your work before you exit the program. Once you've exited without saving, your unsaved work is lost.

With a history of connecting people to the land through public access and property stewardship, LandPaths recently opened a new kind of portal for alleviating our “nature deficit disorder.” When they took on Bayer Farm in the middle of Roseland, they asked, “Why aren’t we growing food on our parklands?” Their expanded vision combines the benefits of a rural farm and urban park. We are committed to ending family homelessness in this community. The great majority of homeless families are headed by single mothers who are poor and vulnerable; most are victims of violence. We believe the cycle of multiple-generation homelessness can be broken. The Community Foundation, in partnership with COTS, Catholic Charities, YWCA, CAP and Women’s Recovery Services provides these mothers effective and meaningful programs to make their current episode of homelessness their last. Through our innovative approach, families will have the tools to break their cycle of poverty and homelessness and the resilience to sustain their hard-earned gains.
