Small Grants for the Arts Program

Small Grants for the Arts Program

Please note: In 2016 we will focus our arts grantmaking on arts education and will not run the Small Grants for the Arts program.

The Issue:

Thousands of artists and more than 120 performing arts companies make their homes and livelihoods here.  Sonoma’s thriving arts community is a significant tourism draw and key economic driver for our county, yet too often artists struggle to engage new and diverse audiences who may not have opportunities to experience the arts.

The Grant Program:

Community Foundation Sonoma County’s Small Grants for the Arts program enables Sonoma County artists and arts organizations to explore innovative ways of expanding participation and engagement in the arts.  Particular emphasis goes to projects that engage new audiences limited by geography, ethnicity, economics or disability. Funding may be used for:

    • Offsetting ticket costs
    • Expenses such as space rentals, permits, salaries or wages, marketing and promotion, and project supplies and materials
    • New artistic works such as projects, events, festivals and programs
    • Common engagement practices such as participatory art, unique collaborations, and art-making in public spaces

    Eligibility Criteria:

      • Must be an arts organization or an artist living and presenting in Sonoma County
      • Must have a 501c3 status, or a fiscal sponsor
      • Artists or arts organizations from all artistic disciplines can apply

The maximum amount of a Small Grant for the Arts is $2,500.
