PUBLICITY GUIDELINES
FOR GRANTEES
When the good news of the grant you
received from the Community Foundation is publicized, the benefit is
widespread. The work your organization does in the community receives
attention, the Community Foundation is recognized for its contribution and
other organizations learn about our grant programs and are encouraged to
contact us.
When the Community Foundation makes a
grant, the media are usually more interested in hearing directly from you
about the people who will benefit than receiving a press release from the
Community Foundation. Because you are more familiar with your
organization’s programs, your outcomes in the community and the impact
the
Community Foundation’s support will
have, your help is invaluable in effectively spreading the word about your
grant projects.
The Community Foundation asks that
you:
- Include news of
your grant in any publications you produce for internal or external
distribution, such as newsletters, brochures, annual reports, etc.
- Issue a
press release about your grant and send to appropriate Sonoma County media
(newspapers, radio and television stations). Radio stations may be
interested if someone can provide an interview on the air, TV stations may
be interested if the program has good visual appeal.
- Provide a
link to the Community Foundation’s Web site ( www.sonomacf.org) on your Web site, if
you have one.
- Send us a
draft of any promotional materials (including press releases) you plan to
send out before publication so that we can ensure the accuracy of our
name and the purpose of the grant.
- Send us
copies of any grant-related media coverage that results from your
efforts.
Community Foundation staff will
help you by:
-
Reviewing your news releases and other publicity materials, if
requested.
- Being
available for an interview, if appropriate.
- Listing your
grant and linking to your organization’s Web site from our Web
site.
References
- Our
name: Please always refer to us as Community Foundation Sonoma
County (no comma, no “the,” no “of.”) or the
Community Foundation. Do not use the abbreviation CFSC if at all
possible. If you have received a grant from an individual fund of the
Community Foundation, the letter you receive with your check will specify
the exact name of the fund that should be used in any recognition, e.g.
“A grant from the Joe Doe fund of Community Foundation Sonoma
County.”
-
Description: Please use the following
“boilerplate” paragraph to describe the Community Foundation in
any publicity:
Community Foundation
Sonoma County was established in 1983 to create an ongoing source
of funds for local charitable organizations. It is a vehicle for
community philanthropy that enables individuals of both modest means and
substantial wealth to contribute to a permanent endowment for Sonoma
County. For more information, please visit www.sonomacf.org.
-
Logo: Use of our logo is allowed only under certain
circumstances. Please contact the Community Foundation for additional
