History and Mission
THE MISSION OF COMMUNITY FOUNDATION SONOMA COUNTY IS TO
STRENGTHEN OUR LOCAL COMMUNITIES THROUGH
EFFECTIVE PHILANTHROPY AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT.
Founded in 1983, the Community Foundation is the trusted advisor to individuals, families, community benefit organizations and businesses who have created charitable funds to make a difference in the lives of others through thoughtful and caring philanthropy.
The Community Foundation and its donors support a diversity of needs and opportunities. Since 1983, $94 million in grants have been awarded to community benefit organizations in Sonoma County and beyond.
Three areas of strength combine to make the Community Foundation Sonoma County unique:
Personalized Service to donors to help meet their philanthropic objectives
Local Expertise about organizations and programs that are making a difference in our communities; and
Ability to act as a catalyst on challenging community issues where a neutral convener is required to reach effective outcomes.
