Barbara Hughes, President and CEOBarbara Hughes, President and CEO

Barbara Hughes is President and Chief Executive Officer of Community Foundation Sonoma County. With 25 years of corporate and nonprofit experience, she brings a record of results built on a foundation of sound financial management, strategic planning and inclusive leadership.

Prior to joining the foundation, Ms. Hughes advised a range of nonprofit clients on financial reporting, business planning and operations, as well as governance and leadership training. She most recently served as interim Executive Director for the California Association of Food Banks, the organization providing programs and services to 45 food banks throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

Before co-founding her consulting practice, Barbara served as the Senior Vice President and Controller at Fireman’s Fund Insurance in Novato, leading a team of 140 finance professionals. Participating in the acquisitions of two companies led to an appreciation of thoughtfully managing effective transitions while successfully navigating all of the related financial and individual considerations.

Barbara began her career at the South Jersey Savings Bank in Turnersville, New Jersey, where she introduced new products and implemented controls for the credit operations of a $400 million community lender. Her work included overseeing compliance with the Community Reinvestment Act, for which the bank consistently received top ratings from federal and state regulators.

Barbara holds a degree in Accounting from Rutgers University. Her community involvement includes having served on the Board of Directors for the Center for Responsible Funding in Philadelphia and the Redwood Empire Food Bank in Santa Rosa.

Barbara and her husband Greg DiPaolo are residents of the city of Sonoma.
